Alfasigma has been supporting the free specialist homecare for people with cancer and the cancer prevention work conducted by the ANT Foundation for many years.

Since it was founded in 1978 by oncology professor Franco Pannuti, ANT has taken care of more than 120,000 people in 10 Italian regions (Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany, Lazio, Marche, Campania, Basilicata, Apulia and Umbria). Every day, 4,000 people are helped in their homes by ANT’s 20 multidisciplinary teams, which deliver comprehensive specialist hospital-level care and social welfare assistance to cancer patients and their families.

Overall, 433 professionals work for the Foundation (doctors, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, healthcare and social assistance operators etc.) alongside more than 2,000 volunteers engaged in the fund-raising activities required to financially support the work of the health staff.

Since 2015, ANT’s homecare service for people with cancer has been certified under the UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 quality standard issued by Globe s.r.l. and, in 2016 the Foundation signed a gratuitous Protocol of Understanding with the Ministry of Health on the matters referred to in Law 38 on pain and palliative care.

Moreover, ANT has long been engaged in cancer prevention projects focused on the early diagnosis of melanoma, thyroid, gynaecological and breast cancers. Since its beginning in 2004 more than 140,000 patients in over 70 Italian provinces have been visited free of charge.

Using the Social Return On Investment (SROI) method, a recent survey was conducted by the Human Foundation, an organisation headed by Giovanna Melandri. This research revealed that every single euro invested in the ANT Foundation’s activities produced a value of 1.9 euros, resulting in almost twice the value.
