The new group will rank among the top five companies in the Italian Pharma market, both in term of Prescription and Over the Counter drugs, with a turnover of over 900 million Euros.

Over the last few days the operation foreseeing the transfer into the new holding company ALFASIGMA of the whole pharmaceutical activities and subsidiaries belonging to both Alfa Wassermann and Sigma-Tau, two of the most prominent Italian Pharmaceutical companies with a strong international presence, has been fulfilled.
ALFASIGMA shall have the task to govern the aggregation of the two entities being conferred, as well as to set the strategic and development guidelines.
ALFASIGMA’s majority shareholder – with 75% share - is the Golinelli family. Some members of the Cavazza family own 20% share and Intesa Sanpaolo, previously shareholder of Sigma-Tau, has taken the remaining 5% participation.
Marino Golinelli, founder of Alfa Wassermann, has been nominated as Honorary President of ALFASIGMA; Stefano Golinelli has been appointed as Chairman and Andrea Golinelli as Vice President with special assignment on Innovation. ALFASIGMA will be lead by Giampaolo Girotti as Chief Executive Officer with also direct responsibility over the two operative companies and their related subsidiaries.

The business plan foresees further growth for both the Italian and the International activities, thanks to the synergies which will be put forth by adding more resources in R&D and in manufacturing.
Internationally, ALFASIGMA is already present in 18 countries with about 2,800 total employees of whom about 1,840 working in Italy and 960 in the subsidiaries abroad. The Italian operational sites are: Bologna, Milan, Pomezia, Alanno and Sermoneta.
Intesa Sanpaolo has been the only bank financing the acquisition process; the financing has been arranged by the Corporate and Investment Banking Division.
Alfa Wassermann has been supported by the Legal Firm Chiomenti and by Artemio Giovanni Guareschi for the fiscal aspects.
